Because There Has Been A LOT Going On

Hey y'all, what's up?

Things are crazy right now and I just want to ask, y'all doing alright?

Just So You Remain Aware

Between the:

  • continued legal battles over racial gerrymandering,

  • heightened awareness around missing and murdered Black women,

  • & the recent judicial updates behind Karmelo Anthony & Cyrus Carmack-Belton's cases...

The Black community is stretching itself thin with calls for boycotts of Southern PWI's & Asian businesses because the world keeps demanding more from us than it ever gives back.

So, I want to make sure you're taking care of you while you're taking in all that's happening.

But also engaging in the discourse, doing what you feel is best, and staying connected to your community so you remain aware AND well.

You Should Know That Being Aware Requires accountability

The black experience is a unique one because our awareness IS dependent on our wellness and the powerful thing that happens when we accept this, is the accountability we assume for the way we think, the way we act, and the way we engage with our community.

These last two weeks, I did my best to call out haters of the black community, but really, these are just the individuals who have fallen into apathy, hopelessness, or helplessness, which I feel is a result of a lack of accountability.

The Rejooov Wellness Chain:

Hear me out, if you're aware, you're in control,

If you're in control, you take responsibility,

If you take responsibility, you have to hold yourself accountable.

Being honest with yourself and those around you is not only how you build a stronger reputation within your community, but it increases your drive to take better care of yourself so that you are able to take care of your responsibilities.

However, it's imperative that you don't allow how you hold yourself accountable to become some intense unrelenting pressure to perform leaving you:

  • fearful of mistakes,

  • chasing unrealistic goals,

  • prioritizing the needs of others over your own,

  • and/or internalizing the judgement of those around you.

If you're experiencing any of these feelings, I recommend speaking with someone you can trust to dive deeper into how it affects you.

Accountability Is a Mirror

But its double sided. Just as there are negatives, it has it's positives.

Accountability has the ability to help you look inward & identify your areas for personal growth instead of avoiding or denying your shortcomings. Accountability is what we need to confront our failings, learn from them, and adapt.

Hold Yourself Accountable By

  • DEFINING YOUR VISION - Vision gives direction, identity, and a standard to hold yourself to.

  • PRACTICING HONESTY - Awareness without honesty is avoidance in disguise.

  • DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP - Accountability includes knowing when you’ve reached your limit & tapping on your community for help when you need it.

  • WELCOMING CRITICISM - Not all feedback is equal, but the lesson might still be useful.
