It's Earth Day: Let Nature Educate You.

Happy 4/20 & happy Earth Day!

Today, my goal is to get you all to do more than simply touch grass because to me, Earth Day is a day to reconnect with one of the three places we should consider our home: this planet.

We are blessed with the gift of nature, and if you don't do it often, make today a day that you do something to recognize and appreciate it.

Or lean into how nature responds to it's own challenges & internalize those lessons.

Last week we discussed how the cycle of self-curiosity and satisfaction could be the grinding gears of motivation. It's Earth Day, so, get curious about the way our environment endures everything this world throws at it and how we can apply what we learn to our own wellness journeys.

Nature shows us how to be mindful

If we pay attention:

Nature will demonstrate it's presence though sensory experiences. In it's stillness, we feel and taste the coolness of a breeze, hear the beauty in a birdsong, smell the rain, see the ripples in a pond, and yes, touch grass. Nature is always minful of the present moment making it efficient in solving it's own problems.

The Lesson:

Use your senses to pull yourself into the present moment so that you can focus on the things that need to be addressed.

What we gain:

A deeper understanding in how to ground ourselves in the moment, slow down racing thoughts, practice awareness without judgement, and recognize how interconnected with the world we actually are.

Nature shows us how to be intentional

If we pay attention:

Nature will demonstrate it is inherently goal directed. While not conscious, each and every decision made is toward the end of sustainability, longevity, and functionality.

The lesson:

Your actions must be as purposefully aligned to the natural rhythms of your life as possible.

What we gain:

A reflection of our values, morals, beliefs, and purpose revealed through our life journey.

Nature shows us how to be adaptable

If we pay attention:

Nature will demonstrate how survival depends greatly on flexibility, an openness to structural changes, and resiliency. Through evolution, migration, and even regeneration, nature fosters endurance, patience, and the ability to thrive by constantly adjusting itself, adopting new, simpler, and more efficient versions of itself.

The Lesson:

Adjusting to new conditions IS a requirement of growth and survival.

What we gain:

A deeper understanding that you have the ability to make change work in your favor by keeping life simple and efficient.

Nature shows us how to go with the flow

If we pay attention:

Nature will demonstrate that not only does it expect change, it wills it. It understands that rigid resistance is a surefire way to stagnate.

The Lesson:

Going with the flow of life saves energy and promotes harmony.

What we gain:

A deeper understanding that going with the flow isn't passive or lazy, it's a deliberate, active, and flexible approach that keeps you fluid through life's changes.

Now, it's your turn! Go outside today and engage with nature for a while. You'll find that if you pay attention, you'll find the lesson, and you'll see what you can gain. Share your thoughts with the group in the comments!
