Hey, hi, hello!!
Question: How many of you have a routine that pushes you toward your goals just as fervently as it ensures that you are taking care of yourself?
Because self-care is not some special treat you set up for yourself sporadically when the mood strikes.
Your self-care should be a prominent feature of your routine speckled throughout the day. It's that important. If we truly want to experience longevity in the rejooov process, you have to treat self-care as a nonnegotiable, just as I mentioned last week.
Forever is a mighty long time to commit to anything and trust that if you aren't taking time to make sure, you're ok, SOMETHING, be it your mind, body, or spirit will choose a time for you. Don't know what it means to neglect your self-care? No worries, here's a list of ways we may be neglecting self-care as well as the best way to move forward:
Physical neglect: Physical self-care
(X) Lack of sleep -> (O) Start by establishing a nighttime routine
(X) Poor nutrition -> (O) Focus on whole foods and drinking more water
(X) Lack of movement -> (O) Commit to 30 minutes a day for physical activity
(X) Ignoring how you feel and delaying care -> (O) Stop ignoring your body and go see a doctor
(X) Poor or improper hygiene -> (O) Show your body you care for it by keeping it clean
Appearance is one of the main aspects of wellness that is focused on the most and unfortunately, how we look affects how we feel about ourselves. If you love on yourself, it shows in how your body feels. A neglected body is always sick, tired, and tense. A well cared for body is healthy, energized, and free.
Emotional neglect: Emotional self-care:
(X) Avoiding emotions -> (O) Acknowledge and try to understand them
(X) Dismissing your boundaries -> (O) Stand ten toes behind them
(X) Ignoring emotional outlets -> (O) Use your emotional outlets
(X) Not seeking support -> (O) Talking to trusted individuals
Don't confuse emotional neglect with mental neglect, they aren't synonymous. Just because you meditate, doesn't mean you're emotionally sound. We often try to mask our emotions and hide how we truly feel. Doing so only hurts us and those who love us when this type of neglect shows up as numbness, withdrawal, and a loss of joy. Taking care of our emotions is self-compassionate and allows you to experience being human.
Mental neglect: Mental self-care:
(X) Overworking -> (O) Engage in mental/creative stimulating activities
(X) No rest or breaks -> (O) Start meditating for at least 5 minutes a day
(X) Not challenging negativity -> (O) Talk back to negative thoughts
(X) Not challenging yourself -> (O) Try out a new hobby or skill
Mental wellness is often overlooked and disregarded. We allow our thoughts to run amuck without much to challenge or organize them and are unable to concentrate leaving us uninspired, stressed, anxious, and irritable. Making sure we practice self-care in this area leads to less mental fog and a positive mindset.
Spiritual neglect: Spiritual self-care:
(X) Ignoring your values/purpose -> (O) Practice self-reflection and establishing goals
(X) Lack of alignment -> (O) Ensure that sure your actions parallel your wants
(X) Lack of connection -> (O) Make an effort to connect with your people
Feeling disconnected spiritually is a special type of neglect. This displacement can affect your entire outlook on life if you aren't careful. You have a place in this world no matter your commitment to self-care but know that neglecting this aspect of wellness can leave you feeling lost, lonely, and overall lacking any inner guidance. It's important that we pour into ourselves so that we remain at peace within ourselves.
You want to stay in the process of rejooov? I want that for you too. However, you have to be able to recognize when you're falling off and need to tighten up.
Continuing any pattern of neglect will be the detriment of your overall wellbeing.
How can you expect to become a better version of you, if you aren't ensuring that you are up to code when it comes to your wellness?
