Make Space for Yourself

Happy Monday guys, and Happy Women's History Month... Again!

I'm grateful for another week to drop a new rejooovism on ya head because now that were on the same page about the importance of our bodies and all that they do for us I just want to reiterate that it is the BARE MINIMUM for us to simply care for it.

We have to take it a step further and make space for it as well.

& if you're a woman reading this, we have to do so in a world that marginalizes women at large.

Yes, I'm always on my soap box but that's because it's never lost on me how if the slightest transgression can send someone into a downward spiral, studies are JUST NOW coming out and revealing what black people already knew, historical and institutionalized bias and discrimination can negatively impact one's health and wellness.

So, it's important that we, of all people (specifically black women), make it a point to make space for ourselves. If you aren't sure how or need a refresher, don't worry, I check the content below:

First, protect your energy

This is such a broad statement, but it's true. If you're going to make space for yourself, you have to have a barrier of peace within you to buffer ANY self-doubt or negativity that may cause you to want to shrink back into yourself. You have to create boundaries, stay diligent when it comes to social media, learn some breathing techniques, move your body in ways that feel good, and work on getting better at sleeping.

Second, declare your non-negotiables

Because they are what will keep you grounded in your boundaries and principles while simultaneously acting as personal anchors for your well-being. Your non-negotiables become daily habits that no matter what, have to be done. With these, you ensure that your needs are met, which reduce anxiety and help maintain your self-worth.

Third, ask for support

Feel free to tap into the collective for support from people who want the same things out of life you want. There is a lot you can do on your end to make space for yourself, however, relying on others is a healthy and sustainable shift from a constant state of draining self-reliance. Having a group of people who respect your boundaries can offer you more than just a way to socialize. By sharing burdens and boundaries you create the physical, mental and emotional room to rest, reflect, and recharge.

Fourth, designate the areas in your home

You have to curate the vibe of your home. You have to determine what each area in your home represents and apply meaning to them. Once you've done that, create an area where you can immediately feel at peace once you're within it.

& Finally, prioritize self-care

You had to know that this was coming. Keep taking care of yourself. Keep engaging in activities that make you and your body happy, respectively. Do the things your body loves but you might hate, do the things that feel good. Go for a walk outside, mediate while OUTSIDE. Get you a journal and start logging your thoughts. Intentionally move your body and try syncing that movement to your breath. Do some yoga.

Make sure you're checking in with yourself often,

Simplify your life as much as possible, and

Do your best to remain authentic.

That's how you make space for yourself.
